Comments: Not a true palm in the Arecaceae family, but a monocot in the Strelitziaceae family. Named after Traveller’s due to stories of people drinking rain water that collects between the leaves. This water is not typically safe to drink due to the high concentration of detritus and mosquito larvae. Additionally, the plant grows in an East-West direction, which helps guide wayward travellers.

Toxicity: Safe.
